Sao Paulo, Brazil – 26 January 2010

The first stop for Why Sport Matters in South America is Brazil, and we spent the past week in Sao Paulo -- the business capital of the country -- and a huge city that doesn’t sleep. It was fitting that our journey took us from South Africa to Brazil, the hosts for the next two FIFA World Cups. In each place, you can really feel the impact that this mega sport event is having. Check out this YOUTUBE VIDEO of our parting thoughts as we left Africa to board our flight to Brazil.

Our visit to Sao Paulo fell during the period of the Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior, one of the biggest (and most important) youth football tournaments in the world. Why Sport Matters joined the other “Paulistas” to fill the stands at the city’s Pacaembu stadium to watch the Under-18s play in the final match. Check out the BLOG for more on our time in Sao Paulo.

The next stop is Rio de Janeiro, the home of the 2016 Olympic Games. Why Sport Matters will spend the next 3 weeks in this picturesque city, which should be exciting in the lead-up to Carnivale in mid-February. In the meantime, we are keeping an eye on the activities in Vancouver as the 2010 Winter Olympics start in just 2 weeks! Also check out our YOU TUBE page, and sign up for updates on TWITTER and FACEBOOK for more fun stuff from our journey.
